SENT, Inc. to Launch Southside Wellness Clinic January 27th, 2025

SENT, Inc. is thrilled to announce the launch of the Southside Wellness Clinic, an express care facility designed to provide accessible healthcare services to the residents of Southeast Topeka. The clinic is set to open its doors on January 27th, 2025.

Bridging Healthcare Gaps in Southeast Topeka

SENT is dedicated to ensuring that every individual and family in Southeast Topeka has access to affordable healthcare. Our mission is to provide tailored solutions for all community members, meeting them where they are, whether they are eligible for Medicaid, fall within the 100%-400% Federal Poverty Guidelines, or require alternative low-cost options.

Southeast Topeka is located in a region with the highest rates of uninsured individuals in Kansas, particularly among children. According to recent reports, this area faces significant healthcare coverage gaps, with many families unable to access or afford the care they need. Nationwide, approximately 27 million Americans are uninsured, and 41% of adults refrain from seeking healthcare due to cost. These disparities are even more pronounced in Southeast Topeka, where a large percentage of families are also struggling with high-deductible health plans or lack a primary care provider altogether. This unmet need for healthcare access and coverage drives SENT's commitment to offering comprehensive, affordable healthcare options, ensuring that no one is left behind in our community.

“Healthcare coverage is a tremendous stressor for many in our community,” said Johnathan Sublet, Executive Director of SENT. “Without it, people delay seeking care, sometimes with life-altering consequences.”

The urgency for this clinic was underscored by a recent incident involving one of our volunteer Neighbor Advocates, who suffered a stroke while volunteering. Had the Southside Wellness Clinic been operational, immediate intervention might have prevented severe complications.

Comprehensive Express Care Services

The Southside Wellness Clinic will offer a range of services, including:

Walk-In Services:

  • Routine laboratory collection and testing

  • Rapid strep tests

  • Urinalysis and urine cultures

  • Flu vaccines

  • STD and TB testing

  • Nebulizer treatments

Treatable Ailments:

  • Upper and lower respiratory infections

  • Ear infections

  • Urinary tract infections

  • Common cold, flu, and allergy symptoms

Scheduled Appointments:

  • Work, sports, and DOT physicals

  • Well-woman exams

  • Birth control prescriptions

  • Telemedicine consultations

  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) Substance Use Disorder Treatment.

Holistic Approach to Healthcare

While the clinic will focus on express care, SENT’s case management model will help connect patients to primary care providers for ongoing health needs. “Our clinic is not a substitute for primary care, but a bridge to help people access essential medical services in a timely manner,” said Trisha Osier-Duvall, who will oversee operations under the guidance of a licensed physician assistant.

SENT believes there is a solution for everyone, and we want to help them connect. For some, that means accessing Medicaid. Our Neighbor Advocate team can help those who need help determining if they qualify for Medicaid benefits and help them complete sign-ups. For those who don’t qualify for Medicaid but fall between 100%-400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, our Neighbor Advocate team helps them access the available tax credits so that they can utilize the Affordable Care Act to gain healthcare coverage. For those who fall outside of that category, SENT is partnering with the Stand Together Foundation to offer access to Aimee Health. Aimee Health is the same organization that provides telehealth services for astronauts at the NASA space station. Through Aimee Health, families who work with SENT in some capacity will pay only $5/mo to access low-cost drugs and lab tests, $9.99 for virtual urgent care visits, $29.99 for virtual primary care visits, and $299/mo for medical weight loss, including medications and weekly coaching. Aimee is the absolute lowest-cost option for this type of health care.

Looking Ahead

The Southside Wellness Clinic is a vital step in transforming Southeast Topeka into a thriving, healthy community. SENT invites community members, partners, and healthcare professionals to join in this journey.

Stay tuned for announcements about open hours and promotional events leading up to the grand opening.
